Margaret Falls is the Shuswap's best-loved short hike. From the parking lot on Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road, a 500-metre trail follows Reinecker Creek into a narrow, moss-draped canyon of old-growth forest and ends at a viewing platform beside the falls. It's an easy, family-friendly walk inside Herald Provincial Park, about 12 km along Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road from the Trans-Canada Highway between Salmon Arm and Sorrento.
Trail at a glance
- Margaret Falls trail: 500 m one way, easy
- Lower park loops: 1–3 km, easy, with some wheelchair-accessible sections
- Upper Canyon loop: 2.8 km, more difficult, climbing above the falls with views of Shuswap Lake
- Parking: Margaret Falls lot (north side of the road) or the Herald Park day-use area (south side)
Good to know
The east side of the Upper Canyon loop is hiking only because the hillside is steep and erosion-prone. The canyon is a sensitive area, so stay on the main trail. Pair the walk with a swim at Herald Park's beach on hot summer days.
This is a public trail in a BC provincial park, so there's no business owner to claim this page — BC Parks or the Shuswap Trail Alliance can contact The Shuswap Loop to update trail conditions.
